Journées de l’Orthodontie: French orthodontic conference celebrates 20th anniversary

PARIS, France: Every year, Journées de l’orthodontie, an orthodontic conference hosted in France, attracts a great gathering of the profession. At the congress, orthodontists, as well as associated practitioners, including maxillofacial surgeons, diagnostic radiology technicians and orthodontists, and representatives of laboratories and suppliers come together to share their knowledge and network. This year’s congress is taking place from 10 to 13 November at the Palais des congrès de Paris.

The dynamic of the event is driven by the diversity of the 11 member societies of the French orthodontics association (Fédération française d’orthodontie). For the 20th edition, the presidents of these organisations decided on an anniversary celebration with a particularly rich scientific programme.

“Within 20 years, the development of the scientific programme has gone from a simple assembly to a comprehensive meeting made up of sharing, discussions, debates, partnerships and joint efforts,” said Prof. Olivier Sorel, president of the scientific committee for this year’s event.

“To mark this anniversary, it was our aim to compile a programme firmly focused on the future, reflecting international opinion and themed around the specialty’s core value. With this in mind, the medical relevance of orthodontics will be debated on Sunday to shed light on the fundamentals of our discipline,” he explained.

The programme throughout the three congress days is diverse, offering pre-congress courses, during which prominent global experts will be sharing their experience with the orthodontic community, as well as plenary sessions and parallel workshops. There are also sessions specifically for assistants, orthotists and other medical specialties.

For this edition, the opening session has been moved forward to Saturday afternoon. Three leading orthodontists, Drs Stephen Schendel (US), Takashi Nezu (Japan) and Skander Ellouze (Tunisia), will be discussing a variety of topics, covering the interdisciplinary links between orthodontics and orthognathic surgery, the expansion of the possibilities of orthodontic treatment and the use of state-of-the-art aids such as bone anchors.

Dental professionals from over 20 countries will be attending this celebratory and unifying scientific meeting. There will be a large number of speakers from abroad, including the Lebanese Orthodontic Society, which will be presenting a session.

Those who have not yet registered for the congress can do so on-site from today or online at www.journees-orthodontie.org
